Traditional fabrics with added menace
JW Anderson’s latest collection

JW Anderson A/W 2010 rucksackJonathan Anderson is one of the most interesting young designers working out of London. His signature approach is taking classic/old-fashioned fabrics, often with a distinct air of of mustiness about them, and giving them a new lease of life. He likes adding a touch of the sinister or the urban.

We watched him present his fourth collection at London Fashion Week recently. Sunspel were involved in making a number of his pieces and we love his approach. He came to us because we’re British experts in cut-and-sew jersey fabrics, and we certainly had to do some unusual things for him. For example, we made a zip-up bomber jacket for him – out of wool.

Such weird twists abound, but always underpinned by a genuine respect for the fabrics he’s working with. This time round, Jonathan’s gone quite down to earth and practical. Many of these clothes really would work out in the countryside.

As well as the wool bomber jacket, we also made wool leggings, a number of superfine cotton t-shirts, polo shirts, and a ribbed t-shirt out of our thermal fabric.

  1. J.W.Anderson is one of the most exciting designers to come out of London in last 10 years.
His boots were amazing, his knitwear is also amazing. I cant wait till its in the shops. What a great idea for a collaboration.

  2. I love sunspel but this project looks awful, very dated ideas from the designer but i suppose at least the knit samples will be nice quality

  3. I dont like sinister and think there is too much of it about . Prefer style and form, not slouchiness and grot. Try doing some older men and less of the callow (and sinister)

    • Thank you for your comments Paul and Jane. This is an experimental collection from JW Anderson however, not Sunspel.
