Sunspel saves the day
Keeping the funk alive

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings

We got a distress call at Sunspel HQ this afternoon from some good friends in New York. They told us that some friends of theirs have been trapped in the UK because of the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, which is currently causing havoc with flights across Europe.

The friends of our friends are no ordinary mortals. They’re a mighty soul funk band called Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings shun digital recording in favour of analogue equipment to get a true 1960s/70s sound. They have collaborated with the legend of funk himself, Mr James Brown, and more recently have appeared on Michael Buble’s 2009 Crazy Love album along with the Up In The Air soundtrack. They released their new album I Learned the Hard Way in April this year – catch one of their tracks here.

Well, we’re only too delighted to help out anyone as funky as this band.

We’ve offered to put them up – with all ten of them arriving later on today. Fingers crossed they can get home safe soon, or there may be a shortage of breakfast bacon sandwiches at HQ for the rest of the week.
