Richard Lawton has a hunger for adventure. Not content with trekking in wildernesses as far apart as Nepal and South America, he’s recently challenged himself to become an ultra runner, running up to 100 miles in one go. So what drives a man to do such a thing?
Journal
Our journal section of the site is a collection of articles and news about what we’ve been up to, and what some of the people who wear our clothes have been up to, and well, just some of the things we find interesting…
Whether you are interested in trekking to the Pole (the hard way), movies or music, you’ll find it here. If you have a story or something to add, we are always happy to hear from our friends – leave a comment here or contact us at lifestyle@sunspel.com.

Our shop refurb captured on film
Monday, 26th July 2010
This little film gives a glimpse inside our Shoreditch shop as we worked frantically to get it ready in the run-up to our opening this spring. For those of you who’ve already visited us, you’ll get an idea of what work had to be done to get it into its current state. For those of you yet to visit us, you’ll get an idea of what you’re missing.
You can see our unique changing room being put together from the ancient grills the builders uncovered from the front of the shop. You’ll also get a quick view of what we use to sort out post – a great big cabinet originally used in our factory in Long Eaton. If you’re wondering what those things are that look like instruments of torture, they’re actually antique canes. We promise. And if you’re lucky you might spot Jade, our store manager, in a fetching beret.
There’s also a sense of the atmosphere in Redchurch Street and the surrounding streets. This is an area with a lot of stores and cafes opening up and it has quite a buzz to it. There’s a brief appearance by the Albion, where we buy the amazing cakes and coffee that get us through the day.
We’re working on a follow-up ‘after’ film, showing the finished shop in all its glory. Watch this space.

Sunspel polos in Canteen
Wednesday, 14th July 2010

We like what they do at Canteen. They source their ingredients as locally as possible and they believe in simple, honest food that tastes of what it is. In the designs and furniture of their restaurants they aim to celebrate British craftsmanship, and they specialise in bringing great traditional British food back to life too.
‘I want there to be a kind of elegant simplicity’
Piers Faccini, singer-songwriter
Thursday, 8th July 2010

You may never have heard of Piers Faccini, but you’ve probably heard of people who are fans of his. Jack Johnson, for instance, or Ben Harper. If you’re into your African music, you’ll have heard of people he’s toured and performed with, like Amadou and Mariam or kora player Ballake Sissoko. And that will begin to give you an idea of the range of influences and sounds that Piers Faccini embraces.
