The Concept
At Sunspel we take our commitment to creating the perfect t-shirt very seriously, and this has naturally evolved into the launch of Sunspel Handcrafted: a service offering customers the chance to design their very own Sunspel t-shirt, choosing from different fits, sizing, a vast selection of colours and other styling details.
Every Handcrafted t-shirt is individually made by hand in the Sunspel factory in Derbyshire, England, using the finest quality Egyptian two-fold cotton. The t-shirt is cut, made, pressed and packed by an experienced team
The service was conceived to provide customers with their own individual take on Sunspel, giving them a unique garment that will serve them for many years.
The selection process
The t-shirt selection process takes place in a dedicated area of the new Sunspel store in Soho, London, and allows you to design your own truly unique t-shirt, custom-made to your specifications. The following elements can be selected:
1. Select a fit

Standard: a relatively slim cut which fits close to the body but not tight. The twin needleneck binding is finished at 1.3cm.

Relaxed: the fit is wider and slightly longer than the regular fit with a looser armhole and longer sleeve. The twin needle neck binding is finished at 1.8cm.
2. Select a size
3. Choose to have a breast pocket or without.
4. Select the t-shirt colour from an extensive palette drawn from the Sunspel archive. The t-shirt can be all one colour but you can also create unique combinations by choosing different colours for the neck binding and breast pocket.
5. Finally select the colour and position of a monogram (on pocket or hem) or choose to leave plain.
The Making Process
After the order is received, it is sent to the Sunspel factory in Long Eaton. Here experienced cutters select the hand-cut card pattern in the requested size along with the requested fabric colours. The t-shirt is cut out by hand and labelled with the customer’s name to begin its journey through the factory. It is handed to experienced machinists, overlockers and binders to be made up with great care.
If a monogram has been selected, this will be added to the pocket before attaching, or to the hem when the garment is completed. When the t-shirt is finished, the neck label, inspired by the Sunspel archive library, is stitched to the inside of the back neck. The finished Handcrafted t-shirt is then pressed and packed ready to be delivered to the customer.
