This season we introduce Cellulock; a unique double-faced jersey that has been developed in England from an original sample found in the Sunspel archive. This easy to wear sweatshirt is designed to have a relaxed fit, with the mélange ribbing details and classic navy colour ensuring a sophisticated look. Also available in a hoody style.
Fabric innovation is a proud part of our heritage and Cellulock – in both its past and present forms – is a perfect example of the pioneering spirit that has always defined Sunspel.
The fabric was originally developed in the 1950s for undergarments – once the mainstay of the business – to offer a unique combination of hygiene, warmth and lightness. Using wool on the exterior and cotton on the interior, Cellulock combined the best qualities of two very different fabrics to offer a solution to one very definite need: comfort.
When we were developing the modern version of Cellulock, the need for comfort was still at the forefront of our minds but this time we wanted to create the perfect outer layer. The art of layering has become a cornerstone of modern dressing and the unique double-faced structure of Cellulock makes it the ideal mid-weight for year-round wear. We used a premium 100% long-staple cotton for both the interior and the exterior of the fabric to create versatile wardrobe staples that bridge the gap between other modern staples: the T-Shirt and the Sweatshirt.
