The New Riviera

Few garments in the history of men’s fashion have stood the test of time like the polo shirt. Whilst our relationship with the style dates as far back as the 50s, sitting in a class of it’s own is the Riviera Polo Shirt. For the new season, we have introduced the long sleeve version of this classic style. Lightweight, breathable and highly versatile, the new Long Sleeve Riviera is a cross seasonal style that bridges the gap between casual and elegant.

Fabric and detail

The Riviera cotton was originally created when Peter Hill, grandson of Sunspel founder Thomas A Hill and a renowned traveler, desired something cooler for the heat of the Italian and French Riviera. The end result was a unique mesh fabric, suitable for trips to warmer climates. Over the years we have sought to refine the fabric into styles that are wearable, luxuriously finished and contemporary.

The fabric has a special construction on a Raschel lace machine with loops knitted at an angle giving it a unique diagonal mesh with diamond shaped holes, therefore allowing air to circulate.

The Riviera retains the same shape and fit as our short sleeved style, featuring a longer, narrower body. As usual we opt for clean detailing, with a neatly finished patch pocket and discreet cuff.

How to wear

The Riviera Polo’s virtues lie in its versatility. Day or night, warm or cold, the polo is a style for all seasons.

For the perfect leisurely look, match the Long Sleeve Riviera with a pair of khaki chinos for the day.

Should the occasion call for something a little more put together, we recommend pairing the style with a fine merino jumper. Alternatively, team the Riviera with a softly tailored jacket, and a pair of leather brogues for a smart casual look.
