Sea Island Cotton Knit Long Sleeve Polo in Smoke Blue
Our founder Thomas Hill was committed to creating lightweight, breathable open-knit fabrics – revolutionising the way luxury underwear was manufactured in the late 1800s. The brand’s commitment to creating fabrics and garments that allow air to circulate around the body continued into the 1950s, when Peter Hill reinvented the polo shirt after finding the traditional piqué material too hot and heavy for his holidays on the French Riviera. On returning home he recalibrated Sunspel’s lacemaking machines to create a cool, light mesh fabric called Q75, and the iconic Riviera Polo shirt – famously worn by Daniel Craig in Casino Royale – was born.
Sunspel continues to innovate, and today we increasingly work with organic cottons and sustainable fabrics while maintaining our focus on quality and feel. We create clothes that will last, and we prefer to use natural, organic and recyclable materials whenever we can.
