This season we introduce Cellulock: a unique double-faced jersey that was developed and produced in England from an original sample found in the Sunspel archive. Used here in a light weight and finished with a vintage wool trim, this luxury made in England basic has a classic fit and just the right balance of smart and casual.
Fabric innovation is a proud part of our heritage and Cellulock – in both its past and present forms – is a perfect example of the pioneering spirit that has always defined Sunspel.
The fabric was originally developed in the 1950s for undergarments, offering a unique combination of hygiene, warmth and lightness. Using wool on the exterior and cotton on the interior, Cellulock combined the best qualities of two very different fabrics to offer a solution to one very definite need: comfort.
When we were developing the modern version of Cellulock, the need for comfort was still at the forefront of our minds but this time we wanted to create the perfect outer layer. The art of layering has become a cornerstone of modern dressing and the double-faced structure of Cellulock makes it the ideal mid-weight for year-round wear. We used a premium 100% long-staple cotton for both the interior and the exterior of the fabric to create modern wardrobe staples that bridge the gap between two of our favourite staples: the T-Shirt and the Sweatshirt.
