Born out of a century of T-shirt making expertise and handmade in our Long Eaton factory, our new Silk Cotton T-shirt combines the best qualities of long staple cotton and the finest mulberry silk to create one of our most elevated essentials to date.

Sunspel has been perfecting luxury T-shirts in our English factory since the early 1900s and this season, we have introduced the Silk Cotton T-shirt. Handcrafted in our factory in Long Eaton, England, it draws on our rich heritage of fabric innovation, combining long staple cotton with the finest mulberry silk. We worked closely with a specialist Italian spinner to perfect the ratio of silk to cotton in order to bring out the very best qualities of both materials. The silk gives a unique lustre, drape and smoothness while the cotton adds durability and softness. The fabric has also been innovated to be machine washable because everyday practicality is crucial to everything we do.
This T-shirt is a testament to Sunspel’s commitment to crafting high-quality essentials. Sunspel was founded to make underwear in the world’s finest natural materials and in the early 1900s, we made the world’s first luxury T-shirt using Sea Island cotton, the finest and rarest cotton in the world. Innovation and craftsmanship have been at the heart of the business since 1860 and this T-shirt continues that long tradition.
“We’ve been looking at our archive more and more recently as it is full of fine fabrics,” Creative Director David Telfer says, “You can’t make the best fabrics any better, but you can blend fibres to get the best properties of both and that’s what we’ve done here. Wearing a T-shirt with a jacket doesn’t always work, but the touch of the silk and weight of this one makes it a perfect fit with tailoring.”
