Cashmere

Our cashmere is remarkably soft even for this softest of materials. There are a number of reasons for this. We use a very fine 15.5 micron cashmere (often regarded as Grade A cashmere) sourced from nomadic farmers who practise sustainable herding and grazing. Our spinner only works with the white fibres, which come from the soft underbelly of the goat. These are the softest fibres on the animal and allow us to develop pure light shades without any contamination from darker fibres.

The fibres are then spun at one of the world’s oldest spinners, Todd and Duncan, who have over 150 years of cashmere spinning expertise. Based on the bank of Loch Levin in Scotland, Todd and Duncan not only specialise in the spinning of the cashmere but also developing its colours. They create the specialist melange shades seen in our collection.

The garments themselves are made in the historic knitwear town of Hawick, Scotland, at a company that was founded in 1874. The knitter almost exclusively knits cashmere and specialises in hand-linking the garments, enabling us to include the intricate details found on our cashmere products. Once knitted, the garments are washed in pure Scottish water to give the cashmere the softest possible handle without the need for synthetic softeners – something that isn’t possible in other parts of the world where minerals are present in the harder waters.
